Position Description
The Electronic Resources & Digital Initiatives Librarian will be a member of the Technology & Digital Initiatives team. This librarian will work with the team to maintain the library’s electronic resource collection, assist in the administration of library systems, and work on special technology projects to support innovative initiatives taking place at the NYU School of Law.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages access to the library’s databases and digital resources, including working with vendors to resolve technical issues.
- Collaborates with department team members on troubleshooting of databases and means to improve discoverability of library resources.
- Monitors the Bobst Library’s (i.e., the university library’s) acquisition of new digital resources, and integrates access to relevant university resources into the Law Library’s ILS.
- Provides record maintenance and database integrity to new, changed, ceased, or canceled bibliographic, inventory, and order records within the integrated library system throughout the lifecycles of library materials guided by departmental policies and guidelines.
- Supports the delivery of digital resources into the library’s ILS using vendor supplied records and knowledge base to insure authentication and establishing record keeping system to track loads.
- Maintains up-to-date information on electronic resources, vendors, contacts, and records.
- Works with the reference team to evaluate and maintain a relevant useful collection databases and online resources.
- Works with the acquisitions team to ensure continual access to electronic resources
- Establishes and documents library procedures for the purchase and cancellation of e-resources, including coordinating, when appropriate, with the Bobst Library.
- Serves as a liaison to the staff of Bobst Library on issues relating to electronic resources.
- Identifies materials that are candidates for digitization. Works with the digital initiatives team to implement in-house digitization projects and develop metadata strategies for digitized materials.
- Keeps up with and evaluating library technologies. Researches and implements new tools to improve the library’s operations.
- Works collaboratively with others on systems-related, technology-related, and digitally based services and projects.
Classification
This is a non-tenure track faculty (Assistant Librarian of Practice) position, and after the first year is eligible for multi-year contracts.
Salary
Highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
- High level of proficiency with library related information technology applications.
- Experience with digital library collections and electronic objects in an academic setting.
Technical Qualifications:
- Experience with Sierra or other library management systems and electronic resources management tools.
- Familiarity with at least one programming/ markup language, such as HTML, XML, Perl, PHP, Python, and SQL is an asset.
- Awareness of technology trends in areas of responsibility.
