    The Deputy Director is a senior librarian responsible for managing planning, personnel, and resource allocation within the Law Library. The Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director of the Rodino Center and assists in the development and implementation of the mission, goals, and broad policy directions for the Seton Hall Law Library. The position works closely with the Director in providing leadership in strategic planning, administration, assessment, communication, and outreach; coordinates the activities and personnel in the law library; and assumes overall responsibility for the Law Library in the absence of the Director. The Deputy Director supervises the majority of the library's departments, including those providing public service, research, instruction, cataloging and acquisition functions. To ensure that the library achieves its mission of fully supporting the research and educational endeavors of the students and faculty of Seton Hall Law, the Deputy Director maintains close working relationships with senior administrators across campuses and other libraries in order to advance the related goals, objectives, and policies of the Law School and University.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Leadership and Management. Ensures smooth day-to-day law library operations. Provides support to and oversight of those providing reference, research, cataloging and acquisition functions. This includes: Assessing resources, their use, and their allocations in regard to current and future issues involving instruction, collections, services, and patrons. • Creating, reporting, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative measurements of library operations and activities to improve library performance and effectiveness. • Coordinating interdepartmental activities and tracking progress toward achieving established or developing goals. • Assessing skills and weaknesses of personnel, in order to establish development plans for direct reports and development activities for the entire library. • Collaborating with law school and library units in undertaking intercampus projects or resolving complex problems. • Coordinating the library's outreach and alumni support programs. • Working with University, local, or national libraries on broad collaborative initiatives. • Planning, leading, and implementing library-wide projects to accomplish planned goals and objectives.

    Research and Instruction. Manages the delivery of all formal and informal research instruction. This includes: Coordinating research presentations in AWR courses with teaching librarians and interested faculty. • Balancing teaching needs with staff availability to provide a robust offering of elective research skills courses. • Regularly reviewing and updating research course objectives and content to ensure instruction evolves with professional standards and expectations. • Coordinating the library's involvement in required courses with appropriate Program Directors, including Lawyering and Appellate Advocacy. • Teaching full semester elective research courses as needed. • Providing support to faculty and students engaged in substantive research projects to facilitate access to, and training on, specialized legal information resources.

    Human Resources. With the law library director, sets library personnel policies within the context of University, local, and federal regulations. This includes: • Ensuring consistent library-wide application of personnel policies and procedures for librarians, staff, and student employees. • Ensuring that library personnel practices comply with applicable regulations. • Establishing programs and processes to promote effective recruitment, selection, orientation, retention, performance management, professional development and training for library regular and academic staff. • Coordinating with Human Resources, Financial Affairs, General Counsel, and Law School Administration, where needed, to implement recommendations related to personnel management • Allocating personnel resources effectively, consulting with managers to ensure that positions are described consistently and accurately. • Reviewing and updating job descriptions, and providing training where necessary for the job
    Acts as an advisor to staff or managers on employee relations issues, and serves as the initial library contact for dealing with complex human resources issues (e.g., potential disciplinary matter).
    Oversees publication and maintenance of relevant policies, procedures, and documents and maintains the administrative wiki on the library's intranet.
    Facilities – In consultation with the director, coordinates library space use, planning, renovation, and construction. Serves as a library liaison to facilities manager for regular maintenance and project managers for campus capital and operational projects. Develops and implements policies for library facilities.
    Professional Activities - Participates as a member of Law School faculty, including service on assigned committees. This librarian also participates in the activities of professional associations (both library and law-related).

    Required Qualifications:

    Master's Degree-Library & Information Science
    Juris Doctor
    J.D. from accredited law school, or equivalent; Master's degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and/or information studies; knowledge of a wide range of library and information resources and services
