    Description

    The Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law invites applications for the position of Director of the Law Library. The successful candidate is an effective manager with the ability to lead a law library that best serves the students, faculty, and staff of the law school in their teaching, scholarship, practice, and service. Additionally, the Director of the Law Library is an innovative and visionary leader, creating services, policies, and procedures appropriate for a progressive law library. The director has a non-tenure track faculty appointment and takes part in faculty meetings and committee work. Additionally, the director teaches a course related to research or technology. This position reports directly to the law school dean and works closely with administrative leadership teams at both the law school and the university library.

    Temple University Beasley School of Law is dedicated to preparing students to enter and continue in the legal profession with the highest level of skill possible, with a firm commitment to principles of professional responsibility, and with a sense of personal obligation to lead and to serve the communities in which they live and practice.     Responsibilities

    The law library director is responsible for the planning and the administration of all aspects of  the law library and its operations, including:

    • ·        Strategic planning of library operations, library administration, policies, procedures, and budget priorities;
    • ·        Recruitment, management, and development of law library staff;
    • ·        Work collaboratively with the librarians to build and maintain an appropriate law library print and digital collection;
    • ·        Work with the law library department heads to create and maintain law library programs and services to meet the current needs of the law school community;
    • ·        Provide guidance and support for the Temple Law Library Podcast; and
    • ·        Manage the physical space of the law library.

    Qualifications

    Candidates should have a J.D. from an ABA-approved law school and a Masters degree or equivalent from an ALA-approved library or information science program. Other exceptional applicants who do not possess both degrees but have demonstrated skills and abilities in compliance with ABA Standard 603 will also be given serious consideration.

    Preferred candidates will have:

    •              At least five years of experience in law librarianship or significant experience in library administration;
    •              Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills;
    •             Knowledge of and experience with current and emerging legal, information, and instructional   trends; and
    •              Evidence of professional engagement and scholarly potential.

    Appointment and Compensation

    Appointment, salary, and benefits will be nationally competitive and commensurate with a successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.
