SUMMARY:
The Competitive Intelligence (CI) Analyst is responsible for the research, preparation, and delivery of reports for current and prospective clients, industries, and geographic regions. Reports are bespoke to the requestor and include in-depth analysis of legal and financial data to create actionable intelligence. The CI Analyst will use a wide variety of databases and resources to collect organizational, legal, financial, and forward looking information.
For this position, we require one day to be spent in person in the office per week and we are able to consider candidates to work in any of our US office locations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis of companies, industries, technologies, and competitors to uncover key, actionable information and insights in support of client meetings, pitches and RFPs, as well as practice and business development projects.
- Ability to identify, analyze and synthesize large amounts of data, including deal and financial, into recommendations that inform strategic business decisions
- Provide meaningful recommendations to help inform litigation and transactional business development and marketing strategy.
- Identify and monitor trends to aid business development for both transactional and litigation clients, as well as cross-disciplinary industry groups.
- Monitor various news/intelligence sources for business development and market visibility opportunities.
- Enhance custom formats for delivering business information requests.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Well-developed understanding of and experience in a law firm role providing research and company information to be used in legal and business development activities.
- Ability to multi-task, judge priorities, meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Excellent writing and editing skills necessary.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to build effective internal and external client relationships.
- Knowledge and experience conducting Internet-based research using tools such as Lexis/Nexis, Factiva, Hoover’s, ALM Research Online, Lexis AtVantage, Westlaw Monitor Suite and others is very important.
- Strong technology skills in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat necessary.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, MLIS, or JD preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years experience in a research-focused role, in a law firm preferred, including experience researching and offering analysis of litigation, competitive intelligence, company/industry information, and financial data.
- Knowledge of the legal services industry required; marketing/business development experience preferred.
