    Temple Law Library seeks a Reference and Access Services Librarian to join our experienced, dedicated staff in providing a high level of services to the Law School, the University, the Philadelphia legal community, and the public. Reporting to the Head of Public Services, the Reference and Access Services Librarian supports research and learning at Temple University Beasley School of Law and ensures efficient circulation and access services to patrons during the hours the Law Library is open.  The Reference & Access Services Librarian manages the Circulation Desk, including scheduling and supervising student workers who staff the desk during the hours the Law Library is open; oversees circulation services including routine retrieval of locally held items, interlibrary loan and reserves; and is responsible for stacks maintenance in consultation with the Director and Head of Collections.

    In addition, the Reference and Access Services Librarian provides reference services to Temple Law School students, faculty, and staff; the Temple University community; the Philadelphia legal community; and the public. This person assists the Temple Law Faculty with their research and participates in the library’s liaison program and supports a variety of student learning through formal and informal legal research instruction as well as outreach. This person helps staff the library service desk as scheduled, and aids in collection development. This person is expected to be actively engaged in professional development.

The Law Library supports the teaching and research activities of more than 700 J.D. and LL.M. students drawn from around the world and 60 full-time faculty members, many with national and international scholarly reputations.     Requirements

    Required Education & Experience:

    • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science or equivalent degree.
    • Experience working in circulation and access services. 
    • Experience with library technology systems (e.g., LibGuides, Ex Libris Alma, and equivalents).

    Required Skills and Abilities:

    • Experience working in circulation.
    • Familiarity with, or ability to learn, relevant office technology.
    • Ability to participate in reference services in person, by phone, and by electronic means including email and chat.
    • tools including Microsoft Office.
    • Familiarity with United States legal resources and ability to contribute to collection development.
    • Understanding of legal research methods including experience with Lexis, Westlaw, and similar resources, and the ability to participate in law library instruction.
    • Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff in a diverse and inclusive research community.
    • Strong organizational skills and capacity to promote excellent customer service, with an emphasis on training and scheduling.
    • Critical thinking skills, strong attention to detail, and sound decision making.
    • Enthusiasm for participating in library outreach initiatives.
    • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
    • Interest in continued professional development.

    Preferred:

    • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or foreign equivalent preferred.
    • Experience working in an academic library.
    • Familiarity with, or experience using, project management tools.
    • Experience teaching research and resources to patrons.
    • Enthusiasm for learning new and continuing library innovations.
