Executive Board Message

Welcome! My name is Paul Riermaier and I am the president of GPLLA. I am looking forward to another exciting year of programming and opportunities to connect with fellow GPLLA members. Whether at our winter holiday party, a happy hour, volunteer opportunities, learning lunches, or our Annual Institute, I always benefit from our local law librarianship community.

If there is programming or services that you would like to see from GPLLA, please reach out to me or any members of our board or committees to share your comments. We are here to serve you, the members of GPLLA!

Sincerely,

Annual Report for 2024 - 2025

Review GPLLA’s 2024-2025 Annual Report for an overview of association happenings during the past year.

Social Responsibilities Committee Update

GPLLA’s Social Responsibilities Committee organized a volunteer session at Books Through Bars Philadelphia on July 12. GPLLA members and their guests opened letters from individuals in prison in Pennsylvania and beyond, selected books to fulfill their requests, and invoiced book orders for shipping. We met up afterwards at a nearby brewery and pizzeria, Carbon Copy, to thank our volunteers. See the upcoming events list if you are interested in participating in the next volunteer session!

GPLLA's Time Capsule at the Annual Meeting

This year’s AALL Annual Meeting included a display of time capsules. Special interest sections, committees, and local chapters (including GPLLA) created time capsules in 2000 of noteworthy or fun items. GPLLA’s display included a Welcome to Philadelphia pamphlet distributed at the July 15 to July 20 2000 Annual Meeting held in Philadelphia and a GPLLA t-shirt with the Ben Franklin quote “I cannot live without books…” The t-shirt had a sticker price of $17, which today with inflation would cost $32.63.

Do you have memories of creating the time capsule? Reach out to us today to share your story!

RSVP for Upcoming Events

Sept. 24: Jill Lepore Author Talk & Free Library

Jill Lepore will discuss her new book that provides a history of the U.S. Constitution. We’ll meet beforehand at Kite & Key for a drink before heading over to the Parkway Central Library to watch a simulcast of the event.

Oct. 8: GPLLA "Book" Club

Join us on Zoom for the inaugural meeting of the GPLLA “Book” Club. Each meeting we will discuss a topic or theme based on an article, chapter, podcast, or other media. For this meeting, we’ll be talking about institutional knowledge. Just like a regular book club, you don’t have to do the reading to join in the conversation!

Oct. 18: Books Through Bars Volunteering & Meet Up

Come volunteer at Books Through Bars on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. At these events we help select, pack, and ship books to people imprisoned in Pennsylvania and beyond. These are great opportunities to get to know other GPLLA members and have a positive impact on our community.

Volunteers are invited to join us immediately afterwards for a pizza and beer meet-up at Carbon Copy, a short walk from Books Through Bars.

Mid-October: Fall Social Event

GPLLA is planning a mid-October social event. Stay tuned for more details!
