    Position Description

    This reference position is part of team of professional librarians in the Research & Scholarship department, and reports to the Associate Director for Research & Scholarship (ARS). The principal duties of this position are providing reference and instructional service to our faculty and students. The librarian is primarily responsible for developing, maintaining, and modernizing the domestic law collection. This position will also oversee the Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery and Government Documents programs.  

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Serving as a member of the Law Library’s general reference team. As such, the candidate is expected to:
      • provide high-caliber legal reference service to Law School faculty and students;
      • serve as a library liaison and provide proactive and personalized library services for faculty, including complex research, research assistant training and the tracking of faculty scholarship;
      • assist in the staffing of the in-person and virtual reference desk, a task that may entail some evening and weekend hours;
      • author and update research guides, bibliographies, and other types of instructional material; and
      • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Serving as the U.S. Collection Development Librarian, the candidate is expected to:
      • Develop and manage the U.S. law collection in print and electronic formats;
      • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Collections & Access Services and other Library colleagues to further develop and manage the U.S. law collection in concert with the budget projection;
      • Serve as a member of the Collection Development Committee;
      • Evaluate new websites and databases focusing on U.S. Law;
      • Supervise paraprofessionals in the Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery department and provide leadership for those units. Develop, update, and enforce policies and procedures for services;
      • Manage the receipt, processing, and cataloging of government publications received through the Federal Depository Library Program in accordance with depository guidelines. Interpret and compile with federal and state policies and regulations pursuant to depository libraries; tracks and details internal procedures as mandated by depository guidelines. Supervise paraprofessionals in the Government Documents program; and
      • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Classification

    This is a non-tenure track faculty (Assistant Librarian of Practice) position, and after the first year is eligible for multi-year contracts.

    Requirements

    Required Qualifications

    • M.L.S. & J.D. (or equivalents)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 1-2 years of academic law library experience.
    • Knowledge and understanding of ILL and/or Government Document programs.
    • Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork and collaboration with the goal of fostering an efficient and positive service role for the library; to form a strong rapport with colleagues, law faculty, and law students.
