    Description

    The Associate Director of Research & Scholarship(ARS) provides leadership for the provision of reference, research, scholarship, interlibrary loan and document delivery services. This supervisory role oversees librarians, administrators and paraprofessionals. As a member of the library’s senior management team, the ARS participates in strategic and tactical decision making for the library as a whole.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Manages, coordinates and oversees the provision of the Law Library’s reference/research, interlibrary loan, and document delivery services.
    • Assesses the extent to which services are meeting the needs of patrons and programs.
    • Compiles department statistics and prepares reports.
    • Collaborates with others in the curation of a research-level collection. Assigns collection development responsibilities among librarians and co-chairs the Collection Development Committee.
    • Provides training and onboarding of staff, including librarians, administrators, and paraprofessionals. The ARS will act as the coordinator, coach, and mentor for a team of skilled reference librarians and staff.
    • Stays abreast of new developments in subject area, including innovative ways to leverage new technologies to improve workflows and provide service.
    • Serves as a library liaison to constituents throughout the Law School, including faculty, students, centers and clinics.
    • Manages daily operations of the reference including tasks such as preparing reference desk schedules, and designating liaison assignments, and answering a range of questions relating to interlibrary loan.
    • Keeps current with technology and trends in library management and services.
    • Oversees outreach/marketing of library services and resources.
    • Oversees the hiring and managing of a small pool of library-based RAs.

    Classification

    This is a faculty (non-tenure track) position, and after the first year is eligible for multi-year contracts.

    Requirements

    Required Qualifications

    • M.L.S. (or equivalent) and J.D.
    • Five or more years of progressive responsibility as a research librarian in an academic law library.
    • Ability to think strategically about research services, programs, and collections as the needs of the Law School community evolve.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, and act as a team builder and mentor.
    • Expert knowledge of legal bibliography and research methods.
