Duane Morris LLP is currently seeking a Technical Services Librarian for its Philadelphia office. The right candidate will work in a centralized library environment, responsible for a variety of technical service functions including basic cataloging. Works primarily in the ILS System (SydneyPlus) with responsibility for some basic reference.

Duties & Responsibilities


Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Sorts, checks-in and processes new acquisitions, mono-serials and rule books. Verifies book deliveries against invoices.
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the Library’s web page on the firm’s intranet using the SydneyPlus Information Manager.
  • Preps and sends out books designated for attorneys’ personal use in their offices for all locations throughout the firm. Maintains up-to-date lists.
  • Downloads catalog records for acquisitions from shared database (OCLC) and performs original cataloging on library material when necessary.
  • Creates and maintains custom practice and industry-centered web pages using LibGuides on the firm’s intranet. Assists with administration of aggregated newsletters using Newsdesk. Assists with administration of firm’s electronic resource application, Onelog.
  • Assists with keeping the library catalog current, accurate and complete. Resolves routine technical problems. Performs a variety of library clerical tasks, as assigned.


Must possess a minimum of one year cataloging experience. ALA accredited Masters’ degree in Library and Information Science required.  Strong knowledge of library information systems and software applications.  Strong knowledge of library technical principles and skills. Excellent verbal and communication skills.  Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and interact with a diverse group of contacts and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.

Ability to define, analyze and resolve problems and to establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to effectively operate a personal computer with multiple applications, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and related library applications. Possess excellent organizational and time management skills necessary to prioritize and successfully accomplish numerous tasks and projects and complete them under strict time constraints. Ability to work accurately and in a timely manner with strong attention to detail.
